Well...here goes!

This is my first ever blog post, something which a year ago I could never have imagined myself doing.  As of right now I have one follower, my good friend and teaching partner, Melissa, who has been an invaluable resource for me in my new blogging adventure.  I am not exaggerating when I say she has helped me in every leg of this journey into technology.  As of two weeks ago, I had never been on Pinterest (I am already addicted!), and I am still not on Facebook.  I literally make a list of questions for her when I am sitting at my computer in the evening, and she never seems remotely annoyed when I bombard her with them.  So, my first post is dedicated to you, Melissa, (you really are the only one I am talking to right now!).  Thanks for all your help in making this exciting experience possible for me.  :)

At the end of last school year I said something that no teacher should ever say, "I have too many books!"  I think I might have even said it to my friend who is a literacy coach in my district.  Crazy, right?  What I actually meant was that I have run out of room for my books in my classroom library.  So, my mission for this summer was to scour every garage sale I could find for cute wooden bookcases or shelves.  I thought they would be easy to find...I was wrong.  I went to numerous sales and kept coming up empty-handed.  It seemed that my mission was not going to be accomplished when finally I did come across a cute end table that I thought had some potential and could house a few books.

As you can see, it looks a little rough right now, but I think it has the potential to be adorable with a little sanding, paint, and TLC.  And it was only $5!   What a bargain!

After that find, I again went through a long drought of junky garage sales and consignment shops until I came across this shelf at a flea market/antique mall.  It is actually something that was used in a pharmacy at one time.  My thought was that it would make a perfect shelf for books on my counter in the back of the reading area.  The dividers are perfect book ends!

At this same flea market/antique mall I found this display shelf, and I was really excited!  Wouldn't it be adorable if I could arrange the books along the circular shelves?  All I need to do is add a back and sides on each shelf to keep the books from falling off.  My husband assured me it would be easy to do (famous last words!), and I was hooked.

So now my mission is taking me to Lowe's, JoAnn's, Michael's, or where ever I need to go to find the materials I need to transform these into the adorable pieces that will make my reading area that much better. Stay tuned to see how they turn out!
