Ten Ways to Use a School Year Calendar

Always trying to stay organized and keep your parents informed on the happenings of your classroom?  Want your students to set goals and track their own data?  This free or editable calendar can be used in so many ways to accomplish all of those things!

Every teacher knows the importance of keeping up on your schedule, meetings, and events as a teacher as well as keeping parents in the loop about the goings on in your classroom.  My school year calendar is available in both a free and editable version, and is updated every year.  If you buy it once, you keep getting the new version every year after!  These are the many ways in which I, or my customers, have used this calendar:

1. District dates and events-It's vital for both yourself and your parents to know all the dates and/or events for the upcoming month.  The first thing I look at when I begin working on lesson plans is the calendar.  Are there any days off, half days, assemblies, parties?

2. Monthly schedule attached to your newsletter-If you like to keep parents informed with a newsletter, a calendar is a great thing to attach to it so parents know when tests are coming up, new units are starting, etc.

3. Activity schedule for home-Give parents a heads up about the activities/homework they will need to help their child with at home over the next month.

4. Specials schedule-It's hard to remember which days the kiddos need to bring their tennis shoes for gym or their library book to return.

5. Behavior record-Do you have any students on a behavior plan?  Use a calendar to record how they do each day.  Maybe this will highlight some trends over the course of a month.

6. Snack schedule-Do you have parents sign up to send in snack for the whole class?  Keep parents informed with a snack calendar.

7. Reading log-Have students track their at home reading by recording it on a calendar.

8. Attendance-Trying to improve the attendance of the students in your class?  Have them set goals for themselves and keep track on a calendar!

9. Data tracking-If you are doing interventions with a variety of students, keep track of when progress monitoring needs to take place.  Have students keep track of their own data on things such as basic facts tests or reading fluency or rate.

10. Lesson planning and pacing-Sketch out your units for the year to try and stay on track with the pacing of your curriculum.

Use my free or editable calendar to accomplish all of these things and many more!
